Deborah Alexander

Ndini (This is me) - Portraits by Mbeke Waseme

My name is Deborah Alexander. I am from London where I was born and bred. I moved to Northfleet about nine years ago. The reason being was for a new adventure and to see what else this country had to offer. The experience wasn't that bad as I was working in the area - in Swanscombe. The people were different and it was a little bit hostile… The year I moved in, there was a street party and I got to meet the neighbours and things started to settle down. <br> My favourite local place is Northfleet Beach. It's a bit of a trek to get to as it's by the Botany Marshes behind Ebbsfleet football ground. Put your walking shoes on and be ready to climb up the bankside. You definitely need boots and once you get there, it's quite picturesque. It's quiet. You can watch the boats go by, you can see the Tilbury Docks. It's very peaceful and there is quite a bit of wildlife as well. - From Ndini (This is me), a series of photographs and interviews with local residents by Mbeke Waseme, commissioned by Cement Fields for Ebbsfleet Citizen Archive.
